Russian Cell Phone Standards

The scientist who wrote this report stated his opinion of U.S. polices regarding EMF regulation "The U.S. standards and those proposed by WHO are 100 times more lenient, depending upon frequency range, than the Russian standards, which are based on the observed biological effects of chronic EM (electro-magnetic) exposures." The report also gave a formal opinion to WHO, the World Health Organization, representing the Russian Policy.

Beware of your children's school

An article posted recently by the Washington Post brings to light how schools are making money by renting out space for cell phone antennas at the schools. The problem with this is that scientists are unsure as to whether these antennas can harm children. According to many of the scientists quoted in the article more research needs to be done to determine the effects these antennas have on children, who are more vulnerable to environmental hazards. New Study Confirms Cell Phone EMF Dangers

Epidemiologists at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm find that cell phone use increases the chances of developing acoustic neuromas, benign tumors of the auditory nerve. The study showed the greatest risk among people who have been using cell phones for more than ten years. The scientists caution that, although short term use is not directly linked to these tumors, they are unable to tell if short term use could cause tumors over time. They also caution that the increased chance of developing acoustic neuromas should be seen as warning that cell phones could also cause other, more aggressive types of brain cancers. 2003 Study on Cell Phone Dangers

Cell Phones and Brain Tumors Scientists have found the first evidence linking brain cancer with mobile phone use. It was found that users who spend more than an hour a day talking on a mobile phone have a close to one-third higher risk of developing a rare form of brain tumor. Most frequently, the cancers were found on the side of the head that the user held the phone up to. The association was found with digital mobile phones, old-style analogue mobile phones and digital enhanced cordless phones. Although radiation from mobile phones has been shown to alter the brain and affect memory, past studies have found no evidence of a link between brain cancer and mobile phone use. In the current study, researchers looked at the medical records of 1,600 patients with tumors who had used mobile phones for up to 10 years before diagnosis. They found that the more mobile phones were used, and the more years they were used, the higher the risk of brain tumors. Further, spending more than an hour on a mobile phone per day increased the risk of acoustic neuroma, a type of tumor, by some 30 percent. This type of tumor, usually curable by surgery, can occur in a nerve in the brain and lead to deafness in one ear. Incidences of this type of cancer, though rare, have increased from one tumor per 100,000 people in 1980 to one per 80,000 today.
